Guwahati police have arrested Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap following a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old student in the early hours of July 25. According to a TOI report, the deadly collision occurred at around 3 am in the Dakhingaon neighbourhood, when a Bolero SUV, allegedly driven by Kashyap, struck student Samiul Haque, who was returning home.
CCTV footage reviewed by the police captured the moment Haque was hit. Eyewitnesses claimed that the actress failed to stop after the collision and left the scene immediately. Haque was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.
Haque family was cited by TOI as saying that he suffered “serious head injuries and multiple fractures in both legs” and the accident also left him with broken bones in his arms and thighs. They further alleged that Kashyap had assured them she would pay for the medical expenses but did not follow through on her promise.
What followed was a determined effort by Haque’s friends, who, according to TOI, managed to trace the SUV to an apartment complex in Kahilipara. There, they confronted Kashyap. best known for her role in “Rudra”, before contacting the authorities.
The police subsequently seized the vehicle and after questioning the actress over her alleged involvement, a charge she denied, took her into custody during the early hours of Wednesday. She was officially arrested around 1.30 am and transported to Panbazar Women Police Station.
Police have confirmed to local media that Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was added to the case. Prior to her arrest, officers impounded Kashyap’s car and interrogated her regarding her connection to the incident, as reported by TOI.
