Around 11 pm on Sunday, the victim, a student from a private college near Peelamedu, was conversing with a male friend inside a car near the airport, when a gang, which had arrived on a stolen two-wheeler, noticed the couple.
The assailants then assaulted the young man, seriously injuring him, before forcibly kidnapping the woman. They took her to a secluded location, where she was gang-raped. In a final act of cruelty, the perpetrators abandoned her without her clothes.
The injured boyfriend managed to raise the alarm, alerting the police who immediately launched a search operation. After hours of effort, the woman was located and rescued around 4 am in an isolated area behind a private college, approximately one kilometre from the airport. She was subsequently admitted to a private hospital near Sitra for treatment and care.
Her friend was also hospitalised and is receiving treatment for his injuries at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
