A 19-year-old girl was brutally stabbed to death by a jilted lover outside her college in Bhuj town of Kutch, Gujarat, on Thursday evening, The Times of India reported.
The victim, identified as Sakshi Khaniya, was a first-year student of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA). She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died around 2 am on Friday while undergoing treatment for her severe injuries.
Police have arrested the accused, 23-year-old Mohit Siddhpura, and are also questioning his friend Jayesh Thakor, who had accompanied him during the assault. Jayesh is currently receiving treatment for injuries he sustained in the incident.
According to the police, both Sakshi and Mohit were from Gandhidham and had been neighbours. The two were briefly in a relationship but had separated a few months ago. Investigators said that hours before the attack, Sakshi, acting on her mother’s advice, had blocked Mohit’s phone number. This enraged him and is believed to have triggered the assault.
The complaint lodged by Sakshi’s father, Jethalal (46), revealed that Sakshi was on her way back to her hostel near Sanskar College when Mohit, riding pillion on Jayesh’s bike, first tried to stab her while still on the moving vehicle. When he failed, he got down and confronted her. He demanded that she give up her studies in Bhuj and return to Gandhidham. When Sakshi refused, Mohit attacked her with a knife, inflicting multiple fatal injuries.
Police officials, including investigation officer Alpesh Patel, confirmed that the exact reason for their breakup is still under investigation. Efforts are also being made to recover the weapon and the motorcycle used in the crime.
“Sakshi had shifted to Bhuj only a month ago to pursue higher studies. On the very day of the attack, she had informed her mother that Mohit was harassing her and pressuring her to return. Just hours later, he arrived in Bhuj with his friend and carried out the violent assault that ended her life,” TOI quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police, R D Jadeja as saying.
