Blinkit delivery boy brutally assaulted, video surfaces amid gig workers' strike

Although, the exact reason for the altercation is unclear but the video is being shared with claims that the altercation followed a minor collision on the road.

A Blinkit delivery boy was brutally assaulted by a car owner after the following a minor road incident in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

The incident was captured by on camera by bystanders. The footage shows the delivery worker being attacked by occupants of a car in broad daylight.

A video was shared on X with the caption: “Road rage kalesh: Blinkit delivery guy got brutally beaten up by car driver and co-passenger over minor crash."

In the video, the delivery agent, with a Blinkit bag on his shoulders, is seen being pulled by a man as his bike can seen lying on the road. The car owner drags the delivery worker away from his vehicle before pushing him to the ground. He then hits the delivery agent repeatedly with punches and slaps. Another man also enters the scene with a stick and then strikes the delivery worker during the altercation.

The delivery boy appeared to be brutally beaten as the bystanders stepped in to stop the attack.

Although, the exact reason for the altercation is unclear but the video is being shared with claims that the altercation followed a minor collision on the road, according to a report by News18.

The video has come to the light when gig workers across India have announced a nationwide strike on December 31, as the delivery workers’ unions called for an “App Bandh" to press for their demands.

A list of 15 demands has been submitted to Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya through a letter by the union’s president Seema Singh and national coordinator Nirmal Gorana.

Among the key demands are the discontinuation of 10- and 20-minute delivery service mandates; a minimum per-kilometre rate of Rs 20 for workers associated with platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Zepto, Flipkart and BigBasket; emergency leave and comprehensive maternity protection for women service workers; and an end to arbitrary ID blocking and punitive rating systems.

The union has also sought a guaranteed minimum monthly earning of Rs 40,000, abolition of peak hours, slot systems and weekend hour limits, and compensation for workers in cases of customer-initiated cancellations.
