Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has urged passengers to plan their trips carefully in light of the festive season travel picking up. Anticipating a surge in passenger traffic, the airport has issued a travel advisory to ensure smooth operations and avoid last-minute hassles.
In its advisory, the airport has issued a warning of possible delays due to high passenger traffic and intensified security measures throughout September and October, News18 reported.
The advisory, issued on Tuesday, emphasised that travellers should allow extra time for security checks.
“We are expecting a surge in passenger volumes during the festive season. Owing to the high security measures in September and October, there may be delays in passenger processing at the airport. Passengers are advised to plan their travel to the airport to allow sufficient time for security checks," the statement by the airport read.
It also recommended that passengers contact their respective airlines for flight-related updates.
Passengers advised to arrive early
KIA also shared the message on social media. The caption of the post read, “Passengers are advised to plan their travel to the Airport to allow sufficient time for security checks. Please get in touch with your respective airline for further information."
Encouraging travellers to make the most of their time at the terminal, the airport added, “While you are here early, experience our range of services from shopping and dining to unwinding at the lounge."
Security concerns earlier this year
This is not the first time KIA has asked passengers to factor in additional time for airport procedures. In May this year, the airport had already issued a similar advisory in response to a nationwide security alert. Back then, passengers were asked to arrive at least three hours before scheduled departures to ensure smooth check-ins and boarding.
According to a report by PTI, the enhanced measures were introduced following rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) ordered mandatory secondary ladder point checks for all flights, banned visitors inside terminal buildings, and tightened screening procedures across airports.
