A video showing Madan Bhupal Reddy, brother of Andhra Pradesh minister BC Janardhan Reddy, allegedly slapping a police constable during a public event at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Kolimigundla, Kurnool district, has caused widespread uproar both online and among political circles.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday during the temple’s inauguration, attended by a large crowd. According to a News18 report, Madan Bhupal Reddy sought immediate access to the temple and entered into a dispute with constable Jashwanth, who was managing the temple crowd.

When his request was denied, Madan is seen in a widely shared video verbally abusing the cop before physically attacking him. The footage also shows the constable attempting to defend himself as the argument escalated into a scuffle.

The situation was diffused only after other police officers intervened. News18 highlighted that the incident quickly became a talking point across social media platforms, sparking debate over political privilege and the treatment of law enforcement officials.

Andhra Pradesh’s Opposition party, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), swiftly reacted, sharing the video on X and alleging that it “reflects the growing impunity enjoyed by those close to power”.

The party also criticised the government, tweeting, “In a shocking incident, the brother of TDP Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy slapped a police constable on duty, openly displaying the arrogance and lawlessness associated with TDP leaders and their families. The assault happened in public view, yet no immediate action was taken, exposing how the police force has been reduced to a tool under political pressure in the current coalition government.”

The YSRCP further added, “This shameful act reflects the growing impunity enjoyed by those close to power, where even law enforcement officers are not spared. The silence of the government on this incident raises serious concerns about rule of law in Andhra Pradesh.”

In response, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) minister BC Janardhan Reddy condemned the attack and called for strict legal measures against his brother.
