VinFast is all set to launch the VF6 and the VF7 electric SUVs in India today. The Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer is locally manufacturing both models in India at its facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
Bookings for both models opened in India in July for a token amount of Rs 21,000. VinFast has commenced its retail operations in India, partnering with 13 dealers to establish 32 outlets across 27 cities.
With VinFast locally manufacturing the VF6 and the VF7 in India, the two electric SUVs are expected to be priced quite competitively. Although electric models account for less than 5% of total car sales in India, price plays a crucial role in determining the success of any new entrant.
Coming to range, the VF6 Earth is claimed to deliver approximately 399km on a single full charge. The VF6 Wind is slightly lower at around 381km.
The VF6 features a clean, modern design with LED DRLs, projector headlights and LED light bars at the rear. It drives on 18-inch alloy wheels and includes sleek styling elements like a shark-fin antenna and roof spoiler.
Inside, the cabin adopts a dual-tone brown-and-black theme with vegan leather upholstery, while a 12.9-inch freestanding touchscreen serves as the infotainment unit. The traditional instrument cluster is replaced by a coloured head-up display. Other comfort features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a multifunction steering wheel.
In terms of safety features, the VF6 includes a Level-2 ADAS suite (adaptive cruise control, lane centring, blind-spot detection and emergency braking), a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and multiple airbags.
The VinFast VF6 price in India is expected to be around Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric and the Mahindra BE 6.
In terms of design, the VF7 looks sportier than the VF6 an boasting exterior features like flush door handles, split LED headlights, wraparound LED tail lights, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The cabin gets a dual-tone colour scheme with leather and upgrades to include a larger touchscreen, along with a coloured head-up display. Also available are features like a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone AC, wireless charging, OTA connectivity, and voice assistant support. Safety-wise, the VF7 comes equipped with Level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, eight airbags and TPMS, among others.
The VinFast VF7 price in India is expected to be around Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom). It will challenge the likes of the Mahindra XEV 9e and the Tata Harrier.ev.
