In a move that comes as a big relief for buyers in the mid-capacity segment, Triumph Motorcycles and KTM have announced that they will absorb the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) hike on motorcycles above 350cc, keeping ex-showroom prices unchanged on their popular models.
The GST rate on bikes over 350cc has been revised from 28% to 40% from September 22, but customers will not feel the pinch on top Triumph and KTM models. However, the 3% compensation cess on such models has been removed.
Model | Ex-showroom price |
Speed 400 | Rs 2,50,551 |
Speed T4 | Rs 1,99,000-2,06,738 |
Scrambler 400X | Rs 2,67,731 |
Scrambler 400 XC | Rs 2,94,671 |
Thruxton 400 | Rs 2,74,137 |
Bajaj Auto Probiking President Manik Nangia said the 400cc range has set benchmarks in design and performance. "Even with the GST increase, we wanted to ensure riding enthusiasts are not discouraged by higher costs," he said.
For smaller KTMs under 350cc, such as the 160 Duke, 200 Duke and 250 Duke, customers will get the benefit of lower prices after the GST reduction in that category from 28% to 18%.
"By keeping prices unchanged on the 390 range and passing on benefits on the smaller Dukes, we reaffirm our commitment to riders," Nangia added.
KTM, which entered India in 2012, now has nearly half a million customers in the country.
Model | Ex-showroom price |
390 Duke | Rs 2,97,443 |
RC 390 | Rs 3,22,719 |
390 Adventure X | Rs 3,03,768 |
