Tesla has announced the opening of its first Tesla charging station in Gurugram, marking another step in its India expansion following the recent launch of the Tesla Centre in the city. The new charging facility is located at DLF Horizon Centre and becomes Tesla's first charging site in Gurugram.
The supercharging site has been set up in the surface parking area at Horizon Centre. It is equipped with four V4 superchargers offering peak charging speeds of up to 250kW, along with three destination chargers that provide charging speeds of 11kW.
According to the company, Tesla superchargers allow a Model Y to add up to 275km of range in just 15 minutes. Tesla highlighted that this is sufficient for a drive from Gurugram to Jaipur's Hawa Mahal. The company added that its "plug in, charge and go" system delivers a seamless charging experience, supported by an uptime of 99.95%.
Tesla said owners can manage the entire charging process through the Tesla app. The app enables navigation to the charging location, vehicle preconditioning, real-time stall availability checks, monitoring of charging progress, completion notifications and digital payments through a single interface.
With the commissioning of the Gurugram site, Tesla now operates three charging stations across India. These include the newly opened Gurugram facility with four superchargers and three destination chargers, a Delhi site at Worldmark with three superchargers and four destination chargers, and a Mumbai location at One BKC with four superchargers and four destination chargers. In total, Tesla currently operates 12 superchargers and 10 destination chargers in the country.
To mark the opening, Tesla will host interactive workshops at the Horizon Centre charging station from December 17 to December 21. These sessions are aimed at demonstrating the operation of Tesla's superchargers and destination chargers and providing information on electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions to visitors.
Tesla currently sells only the Model Y in India. The electric SUV reaches the market as a fully imported CBU from the company's Shanghai plant and is offered in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration.
There are two variants on sale -- the standard RWD priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Long Range RWD at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices are significantly higher than in overseas markets due to India's high import duties on CBUs.
According to data from the industry body Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Tesla sold 64 units of the Model Y in India in September, 40 units in October and 48 units in November.
