The sub-4 metre compact SUV segment is dominated by two models -- Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Despite the car market witnessing low volumes in August 2025 owing to uncertainty and speculation around GST restructuring, these two models performed handsomely during the month. But which one had better sales?

According to industry data, the Nexon recorded sales of 14,004 units in August 2025. The Brezza was slightly behind at 13,620 units during the month.

During the period from January to August in the calendar year 2025, the Nexon garnered sales of 1,14,096 units. In the same period, the Brezza was ahead at 1,21,414 units.

The Nexon is available in India on both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) avatars.

If we talk about the ICE version, there are three engine options: 1.2-litre turbo petrol (120PS and 170Nm), 1.2-litre turbo petrol + CNG (100PS and 170Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel (115PS and 260Nm). The transmission choices include 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT and DCA with the turbo petrol mill, 6-speed MT with the CNG unit, and 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT with the diesel motor.

The Nexon.ev is available in two variants, depending on the battery size: 45 (with a 45kWh battery) and medium range (with a 30kWh battery). The Nexon.ev 45 has a real-world range of 350-375km on a single full charge, while the same is 210-230km for the Nexon medium range.

In terms of price, the Nexon ICE sits between Rs 7,99,990 and Rs 15,59,990. The Nexon.ev price starts at Rs 12,49,000 and goes up to Rs 17,19,000. All the prices are ex-showroom.

The Brezza does not present as much variety in terms of powertrain as the Nexon does. The Maruti model employs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which develops 103PS and 139Nm. The engine can be clubbed either with a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. There is also a CNG option (88PS and 121Nm) with a 5-speed MT.

The Brezza price ranges from Rs 8,69,000 to Rs 14,14,000 (ex-showroom).
