Sonalika is expected to launch its maiden CNG tractor in India next year.

Sonalika Tractors has showcased its first compressed natural gas (CNG)/compressed bio gas (CBG) tractor at Agrovision 2025, the 16th edition of the agri summit, in Nagpur. This marks the company's entry into the alternative-fuel tractor segment.

The Sonalika CNG/CBG tractor is expected to be launched in India in 2026.

According to Sonalika, the new tractor has been engineered for heavy-duty haulage applications where torque, durability and fuel efficiency are critical. It features a 2,000rpm engine, a 12+3 constant mesh transmission with a side-shift gear system and 14.9x28 rear tyres.

The tractor also offers a combined 41kg fuel capacity, which the company says will help reduce refuelling-related challenges during long operational cycles.

At the event, Sonalika additionally displayed a tractor-trolley configuration developed to enhance operational efficiency while leveraging the expanding CNG fuelling network in rural regions. The company said this system is intended to support high-utilisation haulage operations as gas-based fuel infrastructure grows.

"Sonalika has always been at the forefront of engineering breakthroughs, and our new CNG/CBG tractor is a significant milestone in our journey. The future of Indian farming lies in clean, smart and economically viable technologies, and we are proud to showcase our new CNG/CBG tractor that will be a decisive step in strengthening India's green mobility vision under SATAT and GobarDHAN," said Raman Mittal, Joint Managing Director, International Tractors.

"It presents a perfect synergy of heavy-duty performance and sustainable solution as it offers unmatched haulage power, lower operating costs and an eco-friendly fuel system. Innovation continues to drive us forward, and we are committed to empowering farmers with a prosperous farming future while reducing carbon footprint and contributing towards building a cleaner tomorrow," he added.
