Renault has confirmed the return of the Duster to India, marking a major step in the company's renewed product strategy for the market and bringing back one of the most recognisable SUV nameplates in the country. The new Renault Duster will be unveiled on January 26, 2026.
To engage fans early, Renault has opened a waiting program from today, allowing interested buyers to register for updates and alerts on milestones leading up to the unveil.
The Renault Duster was first launched in India in 2012. It is credited with creating and shaping the mid-size SUV segment, which today accounts for nearly a quarter of India's passenger vehicle market. Over the years, the model has built strong brand equity with more than 1.8 million customers globally and over 200,000 owners in India.
Following its India entry, the new Renault Duster will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor.
As part of its International Game Plan 2027, Renault is repositioning its India business with an emphasis on new products and technology. The new Duster will be the first launch under this strategy and a key pillar of the company's "renault. rethink" transformation approach for the market.
Speaking on the return, Renault Group India CEO Stephane Deblaise said: "Renault Duster is more than just a name -- it is a true legend. A symbol of adventure, reliability and innovation, its comeback shows our commitment to the Indian market and our desire to offer vehicles that meet the needs of our customers. New Renault Duster will rely on its iconic heritage while adopting a modern design, advanced technology and enhanced performance."
The brand has not shared any technical specifications yet, but calls the SUV's comeback a moment that will "reignite the frenzy and fuel the passion of SUV lovers across India". Market analysts expect the new model to address growing demand for premium features, stronger powertrains, and modern safety equipment.
The Duster's re-entry will bring renewed excitement into India's highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. More details on specifications, powertrain options, features and launch timelines are expected to follow closer to the vehicle's showcase on Republic Day.
Renault continues to strengthen its footprint in India. The company operates a manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai, with an annual production capacity of 480,000 units. Its retail and service network includes more than 350 sales touchpoints and 450 service locations, along with over 250 Workshop on Wheels facilities that extend access to customers in remote areas.
