The Maruti Suzuki Baleno surpassed the Maruti Suzuki Fronx to become the largest-selling car in India in December 2025, even as the Tata Nexon continued its impressive run, garnering handsome volumes during the month.
The country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, had seven models among the 10 best-selling cars in December. While Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles was represented by two models, Mahindra & Mahindra had one. Surprisingly, there was no model from Hyundai Motor India.
Among the top-sellers, there were five SUVs, three hatchbacks, one sedan and one MPV. This clearly aligns with Indian buyers' preference for SUVs over other body styles.
Maruti Suzuki sold 22,100 units of the Baleno hatchback in December, while the Fronx SUV garnered sales of 20,700 units. The Nexon SUV, which was the largest-selling car in India in November (22,434 units), October (22,083 units) and September (22,573 units), posted sales of 19,400 units in December.
The next four models are all from Maruti Suzuki as the Dzire sedan clocked 19,100 units, the Swift hatchback 18,800 units, the Brezza SUV 17,700 units and the Ertiga MPV 16,300 units.
Another Tata model on the list is the Punch SUV at 16,000 units, followed by Mahindra's volume driver, the Scorpio SUV, at 15,900 units. The WagonR hatchback registered sales of 14,600 units in December.
