BMW Group India is leading the race so far as the luxury electric vehicle (EV) space is concerned. While it is ahead of rivals like Mercedes-Benz India and Audi India, do you know which model is driving the growth for the brand? It is none other than the entry-level BMW iX1 long wheelbase (LWB).
Of the total car sales of 11,978 units (BMW and Mini) for BMW Group India during the period from January 2025 to September 2025, the electric models accounted for 2,509 units (BMW and Mini) with a share of 21%. Besides, the EV sales of the company jumped 246% year-on-year (y-o-y) in the first nine months.
BMW Group India offers electric cars like the BMW iX1 LWB, BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW i5, BMW i7 and Mini Countryman Electric.
While the iX1 LWB was the highest-selling electric car for BMW Group India during January-September 2025 period, the flagship BMW i7 took the second position.

The iX1 LWB is offered in a single variant, the iX1 eDrive20L, serving as the brand's most accessible electric SUV in India. You can get this BMW EV for just Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), which is relatively affordable and does not put a lot of strain on your pocket.
The iX1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length and 2,800mm in wheelbase, offering more cabin space than its standard version sold overseas. The electric SUV features 18-inch alloy wheels. Exterior highlights include Adaptive LED headlamps and a panoramic glass roof, which is claimed to be the largest in its segment.
The interior uses Veganza upholstery made from sustainably sourced vegan leather. A curved display integrates the BMW Operating System 9 with the Live Cockpit Plus interface, offering access to connected services, navigation, and over-the-air upgrades through the BMW One Shop. The infotainment system is supported by a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio setup producing 205 watts of output.
With a longer wheelbase, the rear passengers benefit as they have more legroom. Also, the reclining seats that adjust up to 28.5 degrees provide enhanced comfort, especially during long drives. The SUV also includes Comfort Access with Digital Key Plus, which allows smartphone-based vehicle access and sharing with up to four users.
The iX1 eDrive20L is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW (204hp) and 250Nm of torque. The SUV accelerates from 0-100kmph in 8.6 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 175kmph. The company claims an MIDC-certified driving range of 531km per charge.
A complimentary 11kW BMW wallbox charger is included for home charging. The My BMW app supports e-route planning with optimised charging stops. BMW and Mini EV owners can access more than 6,000 charging points, which have been made available in partnership with leading service providers.
The iX1 LWB comes with an eight-year or 1.60 lakh km battery warranty and a standard two-year vehicle warranty, extendable up to ten years. Roadside assistance and BMW Smart Finance options, including assured buyback value, are also offered.
