  • Goal: Cut energy costs and carbon emissions for enterprises and hyperscalers

IT major Infosys has expanded its collaboration with ExxonMobil to develop and deploy immersion cooling technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency in AI and high-performance computing data centres, as rising AI workloads strain power and cooling infrastructure globally.

Under the expanded collaboration, Infosys will work with ExxonMobil to deploy the latter’s data centre immersion fluids alongside its own AI and cloud platforms, Infosys Topaz and Infosys Cobalt, the company said in a release.

“Infosys Topaz will enable real-time optimization of cooling operations, ensuring smarter energy use, predictive maintenance, and scalable, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure,” the company said.

The combination will help optimise cooling operations in real time, enable predictive maintenance, and support scalable and reliable infrastructure for AI workloads.

The move comes as enterprises and hyperscalers grapple with higher energy consumption and heat density driven by AI compute. Immersion cooling, which involves submerging servers in specially engineered fluids, is being positioned as an alternative to traditional air and liquid cooling to improve efficiency and maximise the use of available power.

Infosys said its Topaz platform will be used to enable AI-driven optimisation of cooling systems, while Infosys Cobalt will provide the cloud and data centre foundation for deploying these solutions across enterprise environments.

The focus will be on building scalable offerings for hyperscalers, large global enterprises, and public sector organisations across sectors such as financial services, telecom, manufacturing, energy, and government.

Ashiss Kumar Dash, EVP and Global Head for Services, Utilities, Resources, Energy and Enterprise Sustainability at Infosys, said the collaboration is aimed at delivering measurable outcomes by reducing data centre energy costs and carbon emissions, while allowing enterprises to scale infrastructure to meet AI-led demand.
