Gold worth Rs 4.5 crore smuggled from Lanka seized

Nagapattinam (TN), Nov 11 (PTI) Over 150 gold biscuits worth Rs 4.5 crore allegedly smuggled from Sri Lanka were today seized from a car in Nagapattinam district and two persons arrested in this connection, police said. Acting on a tip-off about gold being smuggled from Sri Lanka to Chennai Airport via Kodiakarai in Nagapattinam district, customs officials carried out intensive vehicle checking in the coastal area. At Paravai village near Vailankanni, the officials stopped a car and found 156 gold biscuits weighing about 15.6 kg inside. They seized the gold biscuits and arrested the driver and another person in the vehicle. The car was coming from Kodiakadu village near Kodiakarai and was proceeding to Chennai Airport.
