Jubilant Food Q3 net rises 4.2%, same-store-sales surprises

Jubilant Foodworks, the operator of Domino's Pizza brand in India, matched street expectations on all counts while surprising with same store sales growth. Net profit increased year-on-year to Rs 35 crore during October-December quarter, supported by upward trajectory in revenues, customer driven marketing initiatives and business efficiencies.

Total income from operations grew 21.4 percent to Rs 554.4 crore in the quarter ended December 2014 compared to Rs 457 crore in the year-ago period, aided by positives in the macro environment.

"Festivities and price increase in Q3 FY15 partially benefitted overall revenue growth," said the company.

Operating profit jumped 7.9 percent year-on-year to Rs 73 crore but margin declined 170 basis points to 13.1 percent in the quarter gone by.

"We were successful in restoring same-store-sales growth for Domino’s business, with Q3 reporting 1.9 percent (against negative 2.6 percent in Q3FY14), led by customer centric propositions and intensified marketing efforts," said Ajay Kaul, CEO, Jubilant FoodWorks.

The company opened 41 new restaurants in Q3FY15. As of today, Domino’s Pizza has 844 restaurants in 185 cities and 50 restaurants across 18 cities of Dunkin’ Donuts.

"In Q3 FY15, Jubilant opened 9 new restaurants, expanding network to Kanpur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad,Pune and Panaji," said the company in its filing.

The company planned to open 150 new Domino’s Pizza restaurants and 30 new Dunkin’ Donuts in FY15. It already opened 112 new restaurants of Domino’s Pizza and 20 Dunkin’ Donuts as of December 31, 2014.

At 14:59 hours IST, the scrip of Jubilant Foodworks was quoting at Rs 1,448, up Rs 102.50, or 7.62 percent on the BSE.
