The infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for firing multiple rounds outside the home of Punjabi singer Chani Nattan in British Columbia.
The attack came just 12 days after comedian and actor Kapil Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Café, was targeted for the third time in less than four months, heightening concerns over organized crime, extortion, and cross-border gang activity. Notably, Canada designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization last month.
“The reason for the shooting at singer Chani Nattan's house is Sardar Khera. Any singer who works with or has any connection with Sardar Khera in the future will be responsible for their own losses, because we will continue to inflict significant damage (harm) on Sardar Khera. We have no personal enmity with Chani Nattan," read a post shared by Goldy Dhillon, who described himself as a member of the Bishnoi gang.
Who is Chani Nattan?
Chani Nattan was born on October 31, 1991, in Surrey, British Columbia, to a Punjabi family that had migrated to Canada.
He began writing and performing Punjabi music in the mid-2010s, earning recognition for his strong storytelling and collaborations with well-known artists. His music blends traditional Punjabi elements with modern beats, striking a chord with Punjabi youth across India and Canada.
Over time, Nattan has established himself as a leading voice in the Punjabi diaspora music scene, often collaborating with producers and singers from Punjab while continuing to live and work in Canada. His songs frequently touch on themes of resilience, identity, and cultural pride.
One of his most acclaimed tracks, “Daku,” received widespread praise for its powerful lyrics. Nattan also teamed up with actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh in 2021, penning the lyrics for their popular song “Umbrella.”
