Who are Imran Khan’s sons Kasim and Sulaiman, and why are they richer than their father?

The fate of Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again sparked intense speculation in recent weeks, with claims emerging about his health and isolation in prison. As public concern rises, attention has shifted to his two sons, Sulaiman Isa Khan and Kasim Khan, who have largely stayed away from Pakistan’s political arena while living in the United Kingdom.

The brothers have alleged that their father has been kept without family contact inside a death cell and have appealed internationally for proof of life. Their request to visit Pakistan has been halted, with officials saying their NICOPs, identity cards for overseas Pakistanis, have expired. Critics argue that the delay is politically motivated, intended to restrict global scrutiny.

Debate over citizenship and wealth

Both sons, born and raised in London, are believed to be British citizens through their mother, Jemima Goldsmith. Despite holding Pakistani ties, questions persist in media circles about the legal basis for their NICOP applications.

Their significant wealth, inherited from their maternal grandfather, billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith, has also sparked discussion. Many Pakistanis are surprised to learn Imran’s sons hold greater financial resources abroad than their father does at home.

Kasim Khan: The more vocal defender

Born on April 10, 1999, Kasim studied Islamic history at the University of Bristol and later launched his own digital venture. He has become increasingly outspoken, using social media campaigns to draw attention to what he calls the “unlawful isolation” of his father. Kasim has backed PTI publicly but has not returned to Pakistan since Imran’s imprisonment.

Sulaiman Isa Khan: Low-profile but closely watched

Sulaiman, born in 1996 in London, remains the more private of the two. Known for his interest in cricket and occasional high-end lifestyle posts, he avoids direct political involvement. He has been spotted with PTI circles in the past, especially when his father was the Prime Minister, and visits Pakistan intermittently for family engagements.

Sulaiman is associated with an international NGO and travels frequently between London and New York for his professional commitments.

Family background and legal turmoil

Imran Khan has no children from his short-lived marriage to Reham Khan. His current wife, Bushra Bibi, has five children from her previous marriage, including two sons whom Imran is stepfather to.

Imran also has a daughter, Tyrian Jade Khan, born on 15 June 1992 in New York, following a long relationship with Sita White. A US judge later ruled Imran to be her father after he declined a paternity test.

Imran Khan’s political and legal crisis

Once celebrated as a national cricket hero, Imran Khan is now serving a 14-year sentence in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, in a corruption case. Detained since August 2023, he faces more than 100 separate charges, including corruption and alleged mishandling of state secrets, all of which he insists are “politically motivated.”

As speculation continues over his fate, whether Imran’s sons will be allowed to return to Pakistan remains a point of escalating tension between the government and his supporters.
