The White House criticized the Nobel Committee after US President Donald Trump was passed over for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Venezuela’s opposition leader Maria Corina Machado by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Steven Cheung, Assistant to the President and White House Director of Communications, posted on X, "President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will. The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado, an industrial engineer and former Deputy of Venezuela’s National Assembly, in recognition of her relentless efforts to promote democratic rights and her fight for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday announced Maria Corina Machado as the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote democratic rights in Venezuela and her “struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
When asked why US President Donald Trump did not receive the prize despite public backing from some quarters, Nobel Committee Chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes stressed that the panel’s decisions are grounded solely in the principles outlined by Alfred Nobel.
“In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen any type of campaigns, media attention. We receive thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what for them leads to peace. This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates, and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So, we base our decision only on the work and will of Alfred Nobel,” Frydnes said during a press conference following the announcement.
