'What’s Truth Social?': Musk mocks Trump’s platform amid widening rift

Their falling out marks a dramatic shift in a relationship that once saw Musk frequenting the Oval Office and contributing heavily to Trump’s re-election effort.

The Donald Trump-Elon Musk rift continues to widen further wth the Tesla CEO, on Sunday, taking a direct jab at the US President, claiming he had "never heard of" Truth Social.

Responding to a user who shared Trump’s scathing post calling him a “train wreck off the rails,” Musk replied on X, “What’s Truth Social?” In a follow-up post, he added, “Never heard of it,” appearing to mock the platform that Trump launched after being banned from mainstream social media sites.

The social media platform Truth Social, it should be noted here, was launched by Trump in 2022.

The exchange came just hours after Trump dismissed Musk’s plans to launch a new political outfit, the “America Party,” calling it “ridiculous” and accusing the tech billionaire of acting out of personal interest.

On Sunday, Musk, who had previously backed Trump’s 2024 campaign both financially and publicly, announced the formation of the party in response to Trump’s recent tax cut and spending bill, which the Tesla CEO warned would add $5 trillion to the national debt.

“What the heck was the point of DOGE if he’s just going to increase the debt by $5 trillion??” Musk wrote on X, referencing a short-lived government downsizing initiative he briefly led.

Trump has since accused Musk of lashing out because the new legislation scales back green energy tax credits that have benefited Tesla. The president has also threatened to withdraw government subsidies and contracts awarded to both Tesla and SpaceX.

Their falling out marks a dramatic shift in a relationship that once saw Musk frequenting the Oval Office and contributing heavily to Trump’s re-election effort. While Musk briefly sought to repair ties, the divide has only deepened with his foray into third-party politics.

Additionally, the fallout is already having commercial consequences.

Investment firm Azoria Partners announced it is postponing the launch of its Azoria Tesla Convexity ETF, citing concerns that Musk’s political ambitions conflict with his role as CEO of Tesla.
