US Vice President JD Vance recently spoke about his wife, Usha Vance, describing her as a devoted mother, a supportive partner and an intellectual force who contributes meaningfully behind the scenes.

In an interview with Lara Trump, Vance was asked what Americans should know about the nation’s second lady. He highlighted her role within their family, saying, "I know her most of all as a great mom and a great wife."

The 41-year-old vice president said she is "a person who supports me, who is so good to the kids, who makes it possible for them to grow up as normal kids." He noted that ensuring normalcy for children in public life requires “a special skill,” crediting her for maintaining stability at home despite political responsibilities.

Vance also underscored his wife’s preference for privacy, saying she is "a person who doesn't really care about the limelight who's not trying to sort of get out there in front of the crowds all the time."

He described her public role as rooted in service rather than recognition, adding that she "just wants to give her kids a good life and wants to be as good of a public servant as possible."

Arguing that humility is an essential trait in leadership, Vance remarked, "That's what we should want out of our public leaders and certainly they have it in our second lady."

He further praised her intellect, calling her "wicked smart" and commending her ability to process "extremely complicated and a large volume of information." According to Vance, her insights strengthen both their partnership and public service, saying, "I think that makes her not just a great partner to me, but I think she adds a lot of value to American people."

Although she prefers to stay out of the spotlight, Vance said, “doesn't like to talk about it, she doesn't like to be out there, but she loves this country, and I think she did a great job.”

The vice president also shared light-hearted anecdotes about their relationship, recalling an early cooking attempt for his vegetarian wife.

"The worst is very easy. Usha’s a vegetarian and I am not. So I'm like thinking to myself, what does a vegetarian eat...So I went to the grocery store. I got those crescent rolls. I rolled them out like into a pizza shape...It was disgusting. Like it was actually inedible.”

“It's amazing that the relationship lasted because that was the first time that I ever cooked for her.”

Reflecting on his culinary progress, Vance said, "The best thing that I've ever cooked? I'm pretty good at cooking now. But I can make a pretty good brioche bread."

Usha Vance added, "Most recently it's been Shokupan, which is the Japanese milk bread...he's been working on it for a while and he does it really well."

The couple is expecting their fourth child, a boy, due in late July 2026.
