US military planners have drawn up detailed preparations for the possible deployment of ground forces into Iran, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions. Senior commanders have submitted requests to ensure readiness as President Donald Trump evaluates his next steps in the U.S.-Israel conflict with Tehran.

Officials said the planning is aimed at giving the president greater flexibility, though no final decision has been made. Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “No, I'm not putting troops anywhere,” but added, “If I were, I certainly wouldn't tell you.”

The White House emphasized that such preparations are standard procedure and do not indicate any immediate decision to deploy troops on the ground.

Military planning has also included contingency measures, such as handling the detention of Iranian personnel if ground operations were to occur. The U.S. is reportedly preparing elements of the 82nd Airborne Division, along with Marine and Army response units, for potential deployment in the region.

Thousands of Marines and multiple warships are being repositioned toward the Middle East as part of broader force adjustments. U.S. officials said these moves are intended to expand operational options, even as Washington avoids confirming specific next steps.

Meanwhile, tensions in the region continue to escalate, with ongoing airstrikes, missile exchanges, and attacks on energy infrastructure. Oil flows have been disrupted, and prices have surged sharply, raising concerns about global economic stability. The strategic Strait of Hormuz remains a key flashpoint, with limited maritime movement since the conflict intensified.

Trump has indicated the U.S. is nearing its objectives and may consider reducing military involvement, while also calling on allied nations to take greater responsibility for securing critical shipping routes.

The conflict has also resulted in significant casualties and widespread concern over further escalation, with fears growing that the fighting could expand into a broader regional war.

Despite military pressure, officials on all sides continue to signal that the situation remains highly volatile, with no clear end in sight.
