‘Make a deal or we're out’: Trump issues ultimatum to Zelensky

Trump has confirmed that he and Zelenskyy will sign a U.S.-proposed minerals deal during a joint news conference in the White House’s East Room.

A high-stakes meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took an unexpected turn as a verbal clash erupted between the two leaders.

Within minutes of their discussion, Trump issued a stern ultimatum, declaring, "Either make a deal or we are out." Raising the stakes further, he warned Zelensky, "You are in big trouble... you are not winning this."

Zelensky, undeterred, responded firmly, stating, "We are in our own country, and we have stayed strong all this time. We have even thanked you for it (your support)."

Despite the heated exchange, the two leaders proceeded with their scheduled agenda. The meeting, held at the White House on Friday, was centered around a minerals trade agreement that Trump described as "very fair." Zelensky expressed optimism, stating that the agreement could be a positive step forward for Ukraine.

Trump greeted Zelensky with a handshake and a lighthearted remark about his attire, saying, "All dressed up today." The proposed agreement would grant the U.S. increased access to Ukraine’s extensive mineral resources in exchange for American investment. Kyiv is also seeking security assurances as part of the arrangement, though the details remain unclear.

Meanwhile, according to a report by Reuters, the White House removed a TASS reporter from the Oval Office. Officials told Reuters that the Russian state outlet was not on the approved media list for U.S. President Donald Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Trump’s rhetoric regarding Zelensky has notably shifted in recent days. After referring to the Ukrainian leader as a "dictator" earlier this week, Trump appeared more conciliatory ahead of the meeting, telling reporters on Thursday, "I have a lot of respect for him."
