Donald Trump rejects Kamala Harris's claim of 2024 being 'closest election of century'; demands apology

US President Donald Trump sharply criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris after she described the 2024 race as “the closest Presidential Election in the 21st Century,” calling the statement false.

"Kamala Harris, who is DUMB AS A ROCK, is going around and using, as a standard part of her Speech on why she lost the Election, that 2024 was the ‘closest Presidential Election in the 21st Century.’ Everyone knows this is a lie, and was covered as such by Fox News!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president said Harris’s remarks were part of her recent book tour, but insisted he won in a “LANDSLIDE,” carrying swing states including Arizona and Michigan. He also argued that even with what he called a “RIGGED” mail-in ballot system in California, his victory was decisive.

Trump said he won the Electoral College 312–226 and secured the popular vote “by millions,” comparing the result with past tight races, such as George W. Bush’s 2000 win, which came down to 537 votes. He added he expects an apology from Harris.

This comes as Harris, promoting her memoir 107 Days, has repeatedly described the 2024 race as the “closest presidential race in the 21st century.” She argued that her campaign faced structural disadvantages after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July 2024, leaving her just over three months to mount a national effort against Trump.

“Biden decides not to run. The sitting vice president then takes the mantle, running against a former president of the United States who had been running for ten years, with 107 days until the election,” Harris told ABC News.

She acknowledged mistakes, including an October 2024 interview on The View, where she struggled to differentiate herself from Biden. “There is not a thing that comes to mind,” she said at the time when asked how her approach would have differed.

Trump’s rebuke follows recent remarks Harris made on MSNBC, where she again referred to her loss as the “closest presidential election in the 21st Century.”
