US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed the United States is “very satisfied” with developments in Syria, crediting his administration’s decision to lift sanctions for helping the country’s political transition.
“The United States is very satisfied with the results displayed, through hard work and determination, in the Country of Syria,” Trump said in a social media post, adding that Washington was doing “everything within our power to make sure the Government of Syria continues to do what was intended”.
He asserted that ending “very strong and biting sanctions” had been a key step and “truly appreciated by Syria, its Leadership, and its People”.
Calling for uninterrupted engagement between Israel and Syria, Trump said it was “very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria”.
He further praised Syria’s new leadership: “The new President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is working diligently to make sure good things happen, and that both Syria and Israel will have a long and prosperous relationship together.”
Trump described the moment as “a historic opportunity” contributing to “SUCCESS, already attained, for PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST!”
