U.S. President Donald Trump has said that a revenue-sharing agreement between the United States and Ukraine on critical minerals is expected to be signed soon, Reuters reported on March 24.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting, Trump also revealed that discussions are underway for American firms to potentially own Ukrainian power plants, the report added.
The announcement follows Trump's remarks on March 20, when he stated that the U.S. was close to finalizing a deal with Ukraine on rare earth minerals. His comments came after signing an executive order aimed at boosting domestic production of critical minerals.
In a related development, Trump has been engaged in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to mediate an end to the ongoing war. While a full ceasefire remains elusive, Putin has agreed to halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days, a move Zelenskiy has also accepted.
"We would love to see this war come to an end, and I think we're making good progress," Trump said.
