US President Donald Trump indicated on Tuesday that a visit to China could take place in the near future, suggesting a possible meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies. The potential trip comes as both nations work to ease tensions and restore stability in trade and security relations.
“President Xi has invited me to China, and we’ll probably be doing that in the not-too-distant future,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
“A little bit out, but not too distant. And I’ve been invited by a lot of people, and we’ll make those decisions pretty soon,” he further added.
According to sources cited by Reuters, one possibility being explored is a bilateral meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled in South Korea from October 30 to November 1. The visit, still under discussion, may align with Trump’s planned tour of Asia later this year.
Neither the White House nor China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented publicly on the reports.
