US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan during the May conflict, saying his intervention prevented a potential “full-scale nuclear war.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said he personally stepped in when tensions escalated after India launched Operation Sindoor, a series of strikes on terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the killing of 26 civilians in Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

“India and Pakistan were going at it. Two nuclear powers and serious nuclear. Seven planes were shot down. They were ready to go, and I called them up. I said, you go to war and we’re not doing a trade deal, and they said, well, what does one thing have to do with the other?” Trump said.

He added that of the eight global conflicts he mentioned recently, five were linked to trade and tariffs, suggesting his diplomatic influence came through economic pressure.

India, however, maintains that the ceasefire was a bilateral decision, reached after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) requested talks with his Indian counterpart.
