US President Donald Trump called Taylor Swift a "terrific person" while responding to news of her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. He was asked about the couple shortly after the announcement, during remarks following a Cabinet meeting.
A reporter had brought up the topic, saying, “Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are engaged. And the world wants your reaction, sir.”
"Well, I wish him a lot of luck," Trump said. "I think he's a great player. I think he's a great guy. And I think that she's a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck."

The engagement was revealed through a private yet emotional Instagram post that quickly went viral. The photo showed Kelce kneeling and embracing Swift, accompanied by the caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Amid the news, Trump’s past criticism of Taylor Swift is resurfacing online, following her endorsement of his 2024 opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a Truth Social post from September 15, 2024, Trump lashed out at the singer, writing bluntly, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" The post drew criticism from Swift’s fans.
In May 2025, Trump doubled down on his disdain, suggesting the singer’s popularity had waned. “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’" he wrote, taking credit for what he claimed was a decline in her public image.
Meanwhile, Swift and Kelce have been romantically involved since 2023, with the pop star frequently seen at Kansas City Chiefs games. Their engagement has drawn headlines worldwide, and reactions continue to pour in across social media, from fans and celebrities.
