Trump pushes Powell for full point rate cut despite strong jobs report

His comments came just before new jobs data revealed the U.S. added 139,000 jobs in May—outpacing forecasts

President Donald Trump on Friday urged Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to reduce interest rates by a full percentage point, even after the Labor Department’s latest jobs report showed better-than-expected results.

"Too late" at the Fed is a disaster!" Trump posted Friday on Truth Social. "Europe has had 10 rate cuts, we have had none. Despite him, our Country is doing great. Go for a full point, Rocket Fuel!"

His comments came just before new jobs data revealed the U.S. added 139,000 jobs in May—outpacing forecasts. Trump insisted the Fed should act swiftly to slash interest rates.

“If ‘Too Late’ at the Fed would CUT, we would greatly reduce interest rates, long and short, on debt that is coming due,” he argued. “Biden went mostly short term.”

Trump also downplayed inflation fears, urging the Fed to act now and hike rates only if inflation returns. “There is virtually no inflation (anymore), but if it should come back, RAISE ‘RATE’ TO COUNTER. Very Simple!!! He is costing our Country a fortune. Borrowing costs should be MUCH LOWER!!!”
