US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim of brokering eight truces between warring countries, just hours ahead of the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Committee has already begun awarding other prizes in medicine, physics, chemistry, and literature.
Trump’s comments come as the Norwegian Nobel Committee prepares to reveal the Peace Prize winner at 1330HRS (IST) on Thursday.
“I’ve stopped eight wars, so that’s never happened before, but they’ll have to do what they do. Whatever they do is fine. I know this: I didn’t do it for that, I did it because I saved a lot of lives," the US President said during a White House briefing.
The Republican also dismissed the award given to his predecessor and Democrat Barack Obama. “He got a prize for doing nothing… He got elected, and they gave it to Obama for doing absolutely nothing but destroying our country… Obama was not a good president," Trump added.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he brokered truces between eight warring nations, though some countries involved have disputed these assertions. His announcement comes amid heightened attention on his diplomatic efforts, particularly the truce in Gaza, which has drawn international focus.
The Nobel Peace Prize, established in the will of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, is awarded to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
Experts have urged caution in evaluating Trump’s claims. Nina Graeger, director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, told Qatar-owned Al Jazeera that while Trump deserves recognition for brokering the Gaza truce, “it is too early to tell whether the peace proposal will be implemented and lead to lasting peace."
Trump’s comments underscore his continued focus on his diplomatic legacy and the Peace Prize, which he has publicly suggested could recognise his efforts, even as the committee prepares to make its official announcement.
