U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that he has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from launching further strikes on Iran’s gas infrastructure, following escalating tensions in the Middle East.
“I told him, don't do that, and he won't do that,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with Japan’s prime minister.
Highlighting the close coordination between the two allies, Trump added, “We get along great. It's coordinated, but on occasion, he'll do something” that the United States opposes.
The remarks come amid heightened regional instability after Iran reportedly retaliated against earlier attacks by targeting energy facilities in Qatar.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is working to manage rising energy prices linked to the conflict. A U.S. official said Thursday that restricting American oil exports is not being considered as part of the response.
"Oil and gas export restrictions are not under consideration," the official told AFP.
Officials in Washington have recently been exploring measures to stabilize energy costs, as the impact of higher global prices continues to affect consumers.
