'See you soon Google Chrome': Perplexity AI CEO as he pressure tests Comet browser

Perplexity AI CEO informed about its browser undergoing pressure tests in comparison to Google Chrome.

Days after Perplexity AI announced that it is working on its own browser, Comet, its CEO Aravind Srinivas took a jab at Google while he pressure tested the new browser.

Taking to X, Srinivas posted, "See you soon Google Chrome."

In another post, Perplexity AI CEO informed about the upcoming browser undergoing pressure tests in comparison to Google Chrome.

He stated, "Pressure testing Comet. 120 tabs open on both Chrome and Comet. Memory usage seems okay!"

"Imagine throwing Deep Research at all of your work and life context that is accessible on the web and asking AI to deeply reason, research, and figure out things for you. That will be Comet," Srinivas stated.

AI start-up Perplexity has announced that it is building an agentic browser that could possibly disrupt Google’s search dominance. Other than calling the browser Comet, CEO Aravind Srinivas has not shared any specific details about the browser so far.

Currently, Google dominates the browser market and no other big tech firm has been able to dent that domination. Microsoft attempted clawing back some share in the market with its Bing browser, but could not have that impact.

It will be interesting to watch how Perplexity’s Comet might rival Google’s Chrome browser and, in a way, alter the SEO/SEM market. If the startup tastes early success with wider adoption, it could well be the starting point for a shift in browser market dynamics.

Earlier, Perplexity AI had also dropped a Squid Game-inspired ad campaign that poked fun at Google starring Lee Jung-jae.
