Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced Friday to four years and two months in prison in a high-profile case involving sex workers and violent acts. The judge emphasized that a lengthy sentence was necessary for deterrence and expressed doubt that Combs would not reoffend if released.
Combs, 55, was convicted in July of transporting individuals across state lines for drug-fueled marathon sexual encounters under the Mann Act. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, which carried the possibility of a life sentence.
In addition to the prison term, Combs was ordered to pay a $500,000 fine. His defense had sought a reduced sentence of 14 months, citing the 12 months he has already served, but the court denied the request.
Federal prosecutors had initially recommended a four- to five-year sentence, but later amended their recommendation to over 11 years. Combs spoke publicly for the first time in 13 months during the hearing, appearing nervous and checking over his notes.
