According to a post in the The Peninsula Qatar, authorities activated the national warning mechanism, where it stated, "The security threat level is elevated. Everyone is required to remain indoors, refrain from going out and stay away from windows and exposed areas, in order to ensure public safety."
The attacks come on a day when Iran claimed to have launched the 37th wave of attacks on Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem in Israel and a US base in Kuwait.
The attacks on Qatar are part of the US-Israel strikes on Iran. On February 28, Iran launched a large barrage of missiles toward Qatar, most of which were intercepted by Qatari air defenses but the falling debris caused injuries to 16 people.
On March 2, Iran fired another set of drones and missiles aimed at strategic sites, including near Hamad International Airport and the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military base in the Middle East, as well as a major gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
The strikes on the gas facility in Ras Laffan forced QatarEnergy to halt liquefied natural gas (LNG) production temporarily. Ras Laffan hosts the world’s largest LNG export complex, supplying about 20% of global LNG. Because of the attacks and security risks, Qatar suspended gas production and some shipments, which pushed global gas prices sharply higher.
The Qatar government condemned the Iranian strikes on its territory and urged de-escalation.
