The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has formally submitted a report to Congress detailing redactions made in documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, Politico reported. The move comes as a purported list of more than 300 names, shared widely on social media, draws attention and scrutiny.
The six-page letter was sent on February 14, 2026, by Attorney General Pamela J. Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to the leaders of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees.
Millions of documents published
According to Reuters, citing Politico, the DOJ has released nearly 3.5 million documents, many heavily redacted, along with more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images in compliance with the Transparency Act.
While Reuters did not publish the contents of the letter, a copy was shared online by independent US journalist Aaron Parnas. The DOJ has not confirmed the authenticity of the circulated version.

What the purported letter says
The letter reportedly outlines the reasons for redactions and provides a general description of the categories of edits made to the Epstein-related files.
It also includes a list of government officials and 'politically exposed persons' named or referenced in the materials. However, the letter clarifies that names appear in different contexts.
“Names appear in the files released under the Act in a wide variety of contexts. For example, some individuals had extensive direct email contact with Epstein or Maxwell, while other individuals are mentioned only in a portion of a document [including press reporting] that on its face is unrelated to the Epstein and Maxwell matter,” the document shared on social media states.
The letter does not specify the context in which each name appears.
