Pakistan hit by 4.2 magnitude earthquake today

Pakistan earthquake today: Pakistan was rocked by an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale on Tuesday, the National Center for Seismology confirmed.

As per the NCS, the earthquake struck at a depth of 111 kilometres below the earth's surface at 7.20 PM (Indian Standard Time).

The coordinates — Latitude 31.31 North, and Longitude 72.52 East — points at Jhang tehsil in Faisalabad division in Pakistan's Punjab state as the epicentre of the tremor.

Pakistan has been hit by a succession of earthquakes in the recent past, prompting observers to suspect that the country may be conducting clandestine nuclear tests. The country was rocked by a 4.6 magnitude earthquake on 12 May. Prior to this, Pakistan was jolted by two back-to-back earthquakes on May 10 – one 4.7 magnitude earthquake in the morning, followed by a 4.0 magnitude quake later on in the same day.

This seismic activity primarily located in the northern and western regions were being recorded alongside heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack where 26 people were killed by Pak-based terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba's offshoot The Resistance Front's terrorists, and India’s subsequent military response as part of Operation Sindoor.

More details awaited.
