Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir, a provocative statement by Pakistani Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan has ignited a fresh wave of outrage.
Delivering an inflammatory speech in Pakistan's Upper House recently, Khan declared that “the first brick of the new Babri mosque in Ayodhya will be laid by Pakistani soldiers, and the first 'azaan' will be given by Army Chief Asim Munir himself.”
Referring to the religious significance of her country for Sikhs, Khan said, “If they (India) are threatening Pakistan, then let them know that the Sikh army will not attack Pakistan because it’s the land of Guru Nanak for them”
The statement, seen as an attempt to stoke communal tensions and challenge India’s sovereignty, comes at a time when Pakistan is already under international scrutiny for harbouring terror proxies responsible for cross-border attacks.
The remarks sparked severe criticism of the Pakistani senator on social media, with users calling out the country's "shameless leadership."

Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan is a member of the Senate of Pakistan, the upper house of the country’s Parliament, representing the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). A relatively lesser-known figure on the international stage, she has previously served in the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and has been part of several standing committees in the Senate.
Khan hails from a political background and has been associated with progressive women’s rights campaigns within Pakistan, particularly advocating for the inclusion of women in governance and policy-making. However, her recent statements reflect a growing radicalization of political discourse in Pakistan’s power corridors—especially when it comes to India.
Khan’s recent remark about the Babri mosque is not just communal; it's militaristic. This is not just political posturing, analysts say—it dangerously blurs the line between rhetoric and war-mongering.
