Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif labels border clashes with India as ‘historic victory,’ invokes 'two-nation' theory

In his Independence Day address, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attempted to portray the recent four-day border flare-up with India as a "historic victory" through what he called "Marka-e-Haq."

Sharif also echoed Army Chief Asim Munir’s endorsement of the outdated “Two-Nation Theory,” a divisive ideology that India has long moved past in its commitment to unity and secularism.

India, on multiple occasions, dismissed such claims as political posturing far removed from operational facts on the ground.

India launched Operation Sindoor on the night of May 6-7 to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack. In retaliation for the terror attack, the Indian armed forces struck terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Sharif wishing his citizens Indepencdence day of Pakistan, took to X and wrote, “Pakistan’s historic victory in Marka-e-Haq during the four-day war imposed by India has not only reinforced the sanctity of our freedom, but has also instilled a renewed sense of ambition and national spirit in the hearts of our people, magnifying the pride and fervour of this Independence Day."

Notably, Sharif’s remarks followed Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s recent invocation of the outdated ‘Two-Nation Theory,’ asserting that Hindus and Muslims are fundamentally different.

Munir had also referred to Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” during a diaspora event, urging overseas Pakistanis to promote this narrative among their children.
