Multiple people were shot Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, leaving one person dead and nine injured, according to police. The Associated Press reported that the suspected shooter is down, and authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
US President Donald Trump said he had been briefed on the attack, calling it “horrendous” and urging prayers for the victims and their families. “This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America,” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that the FBI was on scene and leading the federal investigation with support for state and local officials.
Police said fire was set at the church after gunshots were fired, and more victims are expected to be found. “There’s has been an active shooter at the church of Latter Day Saints on McCandlish Rd. There are multiple victims and the shooter is down,” police said, according to The Independent.
The church, circled by a parking lot and a large lawn, is located near residential areas and a Jehovah’s Witness church in Grand Blanc, a community of roughly 8,000 people just outside Flint.
