Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has acknowledged the extent of damage inflicted on Pakistan by India's Operation Sindoor, comparing it to the violent attacks on military installations carried out by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters on May 9, 2023.
Speaking at a scholarship and laptop distribution event at the University of Sargodha, Maryam said there was little distinction between the two events in terms of their impact. “There is not much difference between what happened on May 9 (2023) and what India did on May 6–7 (2025),” she said. “In fact, that party [PTI] caused more damage to Pakistan. This party inflicted a level of harm on the nation that even our enemies failed to do over decades.”
Her remarks equated India’s targeted military strikes to the chaos unleashed by PTI protesters, who stormed critical state and military facilities, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi—a day now marked in Pakistan’s history as "Black Day."
India had struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7 in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack.
The operation, codenamed "Sindoor", was aimed at dismantling the terror infrastructure of outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammed in Pakistan. Defence minister Rajnath Singh said that nearly 100 terrorists were killed in the strikes.
