Man crashes car into White House security gate, taken into custody

A man was taken into custody after he crashed his car into a security barrier outside the White House.

The U. S. Secret Service said the man crashed into the security gate at a White House entrance at 10:37 p.m. on Tuesday. The man was immediately arrested by officers from the Secret Service’s uniformed division, the agency said, AP reported.

Visuals from the incident from outside the White House have gone viral on social media.

 

The video shows officers from the Secret Service Police checking the crashed car, measuring it and taking photographs of the vehicle.

Authorities did not immediately provide any additional information about the crash, the driver’s identity or any potential motivation.

Investigators searched his car and deemed it to be safe, Secret Service officials said in a statement, AP further reported.

The agency said that further investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
