US President Donald Trump lashed out at members of his own party in the House of Representatives as his ‘Big, Beautiful' tax bill stalled during a crucial procedural vote. In response to the delay in advancing the domestic tax legislation, the former president issued a public rebuke of his party, warning that internal delays are “costing you votes."
On Truth Social, Trump warned that ‘MAGA’ supporters were displeased with Republicans who voted against the bill and that this would lead to a loss of votes.
“Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove???" he wrote. “MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!" Trump posted on his Truth Social account.
In other post, Trump added: “FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!"
As many as five Republicans voted against moving the bill to the House floor for debate on Wednesday, while the party could only afford to lose three votes.
Representatives Andrew Clyde, Victoria Spartz, Keith Self, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Thomas Massie voted against the bill.
Sources report that GOP leadership and Trump spent the day lobbying reluctant members in a final effort to meet their self-imposed July 4 deadline to send the legislation to Trump’s desk. However, with conservative hardliners and some moderates concerned about provisions in the bill, momentum seemed to slow.
Trump’s public frustration highlights the high stakes: a landmark tax reform bill central to his 2025 economic agenda, amid a party still facing internal divisions despite unified control.
