After pounding the coasts of the Philippines, a monstrous typhoon is now heading towards Hong Kong and southern China, according to current weather monitoring data.
While Hong Kong has suspended flight operations until Thursday and closed schools and offices, China evacuated over 400,000 citizens in Shenzhen as Super Typhoon Ragasa churned, bringing heavy rains to the region.
While it has weakened to a typhoon, Ragasa-also known as Nando in the Philippines-is the strongest storm of 2025. It is still a Category 4 hurricane. The typhoon made the landfall on the remote Babuyan Islands in the northern Philippines

The enormous scale of Ragasa was recently captured by the International Space Station. The video shows the giant eye of the storm spread over the oceans, resulting in powerful winds of 230 km/h. China has put as many as 10 cities on high alert. So far, one person has died due to the storm.
In an advisory, the Hong Kong Observatory has told people to stay away from the oceans, as the storm may result in mega waves of up to four meters and "phenomenal" ocean swells.
From Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong Airlines, several airlines have suspended flight operations for the week due to the inclement weather. Not only China and Hong Kong, but Taiwan is also witnessing overcast skies. Many internet users from Taiwan took to social media to post grainy videos of rough seas and powerful winds.
