Iran said US and Israeli airstrikes hit its South Pars gas field and nearby infrastructure, according to state TV. It added that oil and petrochemical facilities in nearby Asaluyeh were also attacked.
Both Iranian state television and the state-run IRNA news agency reported on the attack targeting facilities at Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province. It did not immediately elaborate.
"Moments ago, parts of the gas facilities located in the South Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in Asaluyeh were struck by projectiles fired by the American-Zionist enemy," state television reported, citing Ehsan Jahanian, the deputy governor of the southern Bushehr province, where the facility is located.
It added that firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene to contain the fire.
Iran share the offshore field in the Persian Gulf with Qatar, which it has repeatedly attacked during the war along with other Gulf Arab nations.
The US previously attacked Iran's Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, its main oil terminal.
An attack, if confirmed, would mark the first time Iran’s upstream oil and gas facilities have been targeted in this war.
During the 12-day war in June last year, Israel struck Iranian facilities operating at the field.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran, killing its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and triggering a war that has spread across the Middle East.
European gas futures pared some losses. They were down 1.2% at 12:30 p.m. in Amsterdam after earlier dropping as much as 3.9%, according to ICE data. Brent futures wiped out earlier gains and briefly traded above $105 a barrel after the news.
Daily gas production at South Pars reached a record 730 million cubic meters in 2025, according to the Iranian oil ministry’s official news service, Shana.
