Israel’s advanced air defense system faced a significant test early as Iran launched a large-scale retaliatory strike, firing multiple ballistic missiles toward the country. Several projectiles reportedly struck areas in Tel Aviv, marking a major escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Iran's strike comes in retaliation to Israel's Operation Rising Lion. According to the Israel Defense Forces, most of the incoming missiles were successfully intercepted, though some did strike buildings and caused damage.
The Iron Dome, developed by Israel with support from the U.S., is designed to intercept short-range rockets. Since its deployment in the early 2010s, it has successfully intercepted thousands of projectiles, including during the ongoing conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah.

Israel claims the system has a success rate exceeding 90%. A military spokesperson stated that Iran launched up to 100 drones in successive waves earlier in the evening, most of which were either intercepted or failed to reach their targets.
