Indian-origin Mayor Aftab Pureval has been re-elected in Cincinnati, defeating Republican challenger Cory Bowman, the half-brother of US Vice President JD Vance.
Pureval, who made history in 2021 as the city’s first Asian-American mayor, secured a commanding victory on Tuesday. Although the position is officially nonpartisan, Pureval is aligned with the Democratic Party, according to the Associated Press.
He had demonstrated strong public backing earlier this year by winning more than 80 percent of the vote in the all-party municipal primary held in May. Before entering politics, Pureval built a successful career as a lawyer.
