Indian man shoots wife, 3 others dead during family dispute in US as kids hid in closet

An Indian woman was on Friday morning shot dead by her husband during a family dispute in US state of Georgia. The shooting left three people of the family dead.

Three children were asleep inside the home at the time of the incident in Lawrenceville city.

Expressing grief over the shooting incident, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta said that the alleged shooter has been arrested. He has been identified as Vijay Kumar (51) of Atlanta.

"We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims. The alleged shooter has been arrested, and all possible assistance is being extended to the bereaved family," it said on X.

According to Gwinnett County police, the victims have been identified as Kumar's wife Meemu Dogra (43), Gourav Kumar, Nidhi Chander and Harish Chander.

The suspect has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder, one count of cruelty to children in the 1st degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the 3rd degree, the report said.

In order to protect themselves, the three children hid in a closet when Kumar shot dead his wife and others. One of them managed to dial 911 and provided crucial information which allowed officers to reach the crime scene within minutes.

The police responded to a call at about 2.30 am (local time) on Friday in the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of four adults inside the residence, all of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
