US President Donald Trump on July 15 said India is moving in the same direction as Indonesia when it comes to opening up trade access for the United States, adding that he believes 'we’re going to have access to India.'
Speaking at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Trump praised his recent trade deal with Indonesia and suggested a similar breakthrough could be on the horizon with India. “Indonesia was great… he’s a great president. We made a terrific deal; he opened up the entire country to trade with the United States,” Trump said. “I think something similar will happen with India.”

Trump also added that countries that fail to comply could face new tariffs, possibly as high as 10 percent, especially smaller economies.
Trump added that his administration is currently working on five to six major trade agreements. Though he didn’t name all the countries involved, he made it clear that nations not willing to open their markets could face blanket tariffs.
He also said pharmaceutical tariffs may be coming by the end of the month, targeting countries that benefit from US drug imports without providing reciprocal access to their markets.
